COTTON USA Sponsors Rising Star Louise Gray at London Fashion Week
In a continuation of its commitment to support up and coming designers, COTTON USA has discovered the next style sensation for its sponsorship programme. Championing the benefits of using premium U.S. cotton within the fashion industry, Louise Gray has received the prestigious COTTON USA sponsorship, and will show her collection at London Fashion Week, 17th-22nd September 2010.
Scottish born designer, Louise Gray, is a hand embroiderer who first studied at The Glasgow School of Art and went on to graduate with an MA from Central Saint Martins College in London. Immediately following her graduation she was selected by Fashion East, and showed three seasons there. Louise has been hailed as one to watch by British Vogue, and in 2007 won the New Talent Award at the Scottish Fashion Awards.
This will be Louise’s fourth consecutive season at London Fashion Week; her Spring/Summer 2011 collection is inspired by the photography of Arthur Khan - Makoko tribe. Louise has also been inspired by Jenny Holzer, Dan Flavin, Steve Bishop, and the colours in Andrew Moore’s photography.
Louise’s label is based on brightly hued, boldly textured garments whose shapes are simple and where movement and texture take center stage. Employing a wide range of materials, including fabric made from the extra-long U.S. cotton yarn Supima®, nothing is quite what it seems in Louise's work. Contrast is key and Louise reworks traditional stitches and embroidery techniques to create a modern wardrobe for women.
Louise was thrilled to receive the COTTON USA sponsorship, “I’m delighted to have been selected for the COTTON USA sponsorship,” Louise commented. “U.S. cotton is a great material to work with and it features heavily in my latest collection. I am looking forward to building this relationship and partnership with COTTON USA.”
Stephanie Thiers-Ratcliffe, International Marketing Manager of COTTON USA, said, "We are very excited to be working with Louise on her Spring/Summer 2011 collection. Her eye catching designs and bold use of cotton makes Louise the ideal choice for the COTTON USA sponsorship.”
The COTTON USA sponsorship was awarded in previous years to the likes of Richard Nicholl, Meadham Kirchhoff, Nathan Jenden, Sinha-Stanic, PPQ, Preen, Gardem Paris and Deryck Walker, and it is a huge boost for designers looking for ways to grow and improve their work.
Louise Gray’s Spring/Summer 2011 show is scheduled to take place at 10:00am on Saturday 18th September at On|Off at Victoria House is Bloomsbury.
