COTTON USA Soft and Sensual

FAQ

What is the most preferred natural fibre in the UK?

Cotton, of course! As you already know, cotton is soft and delicate on your skin. What you may not know is that cotton also regulates humidity and body temperature. Cotton garments have been used for more than 7,000 years to protect us from the elements.

Recent market research shows that in the UK consumers have a preference for cotton. This is not a surprise as cotton is a recurring theme throughout our daily lives. From towels and bedding through to everyday clothing such as jeans, T-shirts, skirts, dresses, underwear and shirts.

Do you know where cotton comes from and in particular U.S.cotton?

Cotton is a natural fibre produced from the cotton plant gossypum, a close relative of the mallow. Cotton is grown in 17 states across the Cotton Belt, which spans the southern half of the Unites States, from Virginia to California. Planting begins in February in south Texas and as late as June in northern areas of the Cotton Belt. After two months, the marvellous mallow flowers blossom and in three days turn from white to red.

From these flowers compact green capsule buds are produced. The seeds and fibres grow protected within these. After about 50 days in the sun these capsules become brown and produce light white and soft cotton fibres wrapped around the seeds.

The plant is then harvested and the cotton seeds and fibres are separated with great care. The cotton is cleaned and then submitted to quality control tests before being compressed into rectangular bales of approximately 220 kilos each.
